The Seventh-day Adventist church is in an uncomfortable position to explain October 22, 1844 in light of media attention on a number of failed prophecies in the past. Their understanding of the key verse, Matthew 24:36 may not be to their expectation as an unexpected coming is revealed prior to the visible second advent of Christ to carry out the judgment of the living that first begins with the church.
